Hello my name is Mark Taylor … and I’m one of your Parish Councillors. I’m fortunate enough to have responsibilty for liaising with the Police and Fire Services, that do a fantastic job of keeping us safe in Stanwick.

Whilst the Police and Fire Services are the front line of prevention and action … and actually deal with incidents, as residents of Stanwick we can all play a part in ensuring we look after each other … and our wonderful village.

As I’m sure you can imagine, the Police have to deal with a huge number of incidents covering a wide area. On a recent call with the The Northamptonshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (PFCC) Stephen Mold and the Chief Constable of Northamptonshire, Nick Adderley we spoke about prevention being a key focus of the Police activities and ensuring that situations are dealt with as early as possible to ensure they don’t escalate.

The absolute key to making this prevention policy work, is the quality of information the Police have at their disposal. If you’re reporting a serious incident, like a road traffic incident, it’s an easy process … “2 vehicles at the junction of A and B”. If you’ve seen something suspicious the “crime” is far less obvious and usually there are pieces of the “crime” missing, making how we report the information far more important.

As a Parish Council we want to make sure we place ourselves and the community in the best position possible to work together.

So while we obvioulsy want to hear about concerns you may have regarding concerning behaviour or incidents, it’s essential that if you’ve seen it … you report it in the best way possible to help the Police … with as much information as possible.

So if you witnessed an incident involving a vehicle registrations are very useful as this narrows down possible offenders. Using this as an example, “a blue Mercedes” can be one of hundreds in Stanwick … making it very difficult (And time consuming) for the Police to narrow it down and take action. A description of “a blue mercedes, registration AB12 ABC” is much more specific and then they can do further work to identify the perpetrators. Even a partial reg with a description is great – the more information the better.

So … how do we best report this information? The two best ways are:

Report | Northamptonshire Police (northants.police.uk) https://www.northants.police.uk/ro/report/

or

Give information | Crimestoppers (crimestoppers-uk.org) https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information/forms/give-information-anonymously

Together, as a community lets keep working to keep Stanwick safe.

Mark Taylor
